Label A Person
When we start to classify people by streaming them in school, we will damage them emotionally. Of course the intent is good. If you are a slow learner, you go to a C class, and if you are a genius, go to the A class. So in the end, more people can graduate, some faster, some slower.
I was streamed in Primary 6 into Class B. Naturally I thought that those students in Class A were academically smarter than me. As a student, academic excellence was the only measure of success of a person. So if you fail an exam, you are label a 'failure', a 'reject' of the school system. And that brings shame to the family. And some committed suicide cos of the shame.
No one is school told me that there are other kinds of intelligence as well. Until I learn as a working adult that EQ is important, if not more important than IQ. No wonder, there are educated idiots around. No wonder there are smart people who are capable of making stupid mistakes. Brilliantly stupid?
I may be in the 'B' class. But don't you ever call me stupid. I will kill you.
